Say Hello to Swish!

Swish was published in the Summer 2026 issue of Fons & Porter's Quick & Easy Quilts - Swish is my 2nd published quilt and I'm so excited to be able to share it with you!

In creating Swish, I visualized a quilt with movement that mimicked the back-and-forth motion of sweeping a floor. I first tried charm squares, then 10" squares cut into rectangles, but neither gave the design enough motion. I finally tried 2.5" strips, which gave me the look I was visualizing.

For Swish, I used a Tantalizing Teal strip pack from Island Batik, along with Milk Shake for the background (also from Island Batik). I designed this quilt in EQ8 from The Electric Quilt Company. I love using EQ as it allows me to play around with different versions and see how different fabrics will look in a design.

Swish can be made with 1 strip pack plus 2.75 yards of background fabric. The pre-cut strips make is so easy to cut out a quilt so you can start piecing faster! Because the background fabric I used was yardage (not pre-cuts), I used my Accuquilt GO! and the 2.5" strip cutter to make fast work of cutting strips for the background fabric.

The Swish quilt pattern is only available in the Quick & Easy Quilts magazine. You can get a digital copy here. The printed copy will be at newsstands on June 30th. There are many fun patterns in this issue from other designers as well, so check it out!

Until next time, happy quilting!
