Hot Stuff Challenge with Oliso

Oliso Mini Iron Cover with Island Batik Fabrics
The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik and their industry sponsors.
For August, the Island Batik Ambassadors are participating in the Hot Stuff Challenge with Oliso. For this challenge, we were to "glitz-up" the carry bag we received with our Oliso M3 Pro iron. We could use any technique we wanted (quilting, embroidery, applique, etc.).

I have to admit, this one had me stumped! I pondered what to do for quite awhile before I decided on applique. For inspiration, I pulled all the gorgeous fabrics I had received from Island Batik this year in my Ambassador boxes.  Below is my first fabric pull. These strips are from the Stash Builder rolls. Stash Builder rolls are bundles of 5 rolls made up of 5" X WOF strips. These are great for inspiration and perfect to build your stash...thus the name!

After auditioning all these colors, I decided to use just the purples, greens and orange fabrics.

Next, I looked through my Accuquilt Dies and found the Feathers die (this die can be used for flowers as well as feathers). I had purchased this die on sale quite a while ago and had never used it, so thought I'd give it a try!

Because I had a large roll of Steam A Seam 2 (double stick fusible web) in my stash, I decided to use that on the back of the fabric, so I could easily iron the applique pieces on the cover. First, I placed the Steam A Seam 2 on the back of the fabric pieces. Then, I placed the fabric on the die and cut the shapes:

For the flower centers, I used a coin as a pattern, drawing around the coin and cutting out the shape by hand:

Then, it was time to arrange the cut shapes onto my cover. Because the back of the Steam A Seam 2 is tacky (even before being ironed), it's easy to arrange (and re-arrange!) the pieces until you are happy with the placement. When you are, it's time to iron them in place. I found the Oliso M3 Pro iron was PERFECT for this task because it's small size and pointed tip made it easy to iron the tricky crevices and angles on the cover.

Feather dies?! Now I’d never heard of those! I have a certain shop that keep trying to get me to purchase Accu Quilt. Not in my budget yet, but I’d definitely want that in the package. ;)

Very cute! I like how you used the Accuquilt die for the shapes. Have a great day!
