Pinwheel Parade - New Quilt Pattern

Pinwheel Parade quilt pattern

Everyone loves a parade! If its a parade of pinwheels, all the better! Meet my newest quilt pattern, Pinwheel Parade. For this quilt pattern, I have set the pinwheel blocks on-point and separated them with sashing, coordinating sashing squares and oversized setting triangles so the blocks appear to "float" within the border.

For Pinwheel Parade, I have deviated from my usual "suitable for any level quilter" skill level. Due to the setting triangles that are cut on the bias and the on-point setting of the blocks, this pattern is better suited to the advanced beginner or intermediate quilter. For those who wish to challenge themselves, but feel they may need a little assistance, I have created a Pinwheel Quilt Block Tutorial.

Pinwheel Parade quilt pattern featuring pinwheel blocks set on-point with sashing between the blocks and a floral border. Quilt is shown folded on a bench.

For my sample quilt, I used fabric from the Wild Blossoms fabric line by Robin Pickens. I used two charm packs for the Pinwheel squares together with off-white background fabric. The quilt can also be made with yardage and would be a great pattern for scraps. The finished size is 62" X 75".

Pinwheel blocks require a specialized pressing technique to reduce the bulk where the points come together. The pattern includes special instructions for pressing the blocks. I have also included the pressing instructions in my Pinwheel Block Tutorial

Until next time, happy quilting!
